Clinical hypnosis is defined as a person being guided by another (the hypnotherapist) to respond to suggestions for changes in subjective experience, alterations in sensation, emotion, behaviour, thought, and perception (Billot et al., 2019). A study by Billot et al., (2019) examined the use of personalized hypnosis sessions to help elderly women reduce chronic pain, despite their increased age. Over 12 weeks, 15-minute hypnosis sessions during home care visits led to major drops in pain intensity and how much pain interfered with daily life, with no side effects.
